Guide
Everyday Nerve Health Guide: Tingling, Feet, B12 and B6
Tingling in your hands or feet is a signal, not a diagnosis. Diabetes, low B12, too much vitamin B6, alcohol, medicines and pinched nerves are common causes (NINDS, Neuropathy). Find the cause with your doctor first. Daily foot checks, steady movement and a B12 test do more than any capsule. A supplement such as NervoMax is a small, optional extra after that.

The basics
What do peripheral nerves do?
Peripheral nerves carry messages between your brain and spinal cord and the rest of your body. They tell you a floor is hot, move your toes, and help run your heartbeat and digestion.
The longest nerves reach your feet, so the feet often show trouble first. There are more than 100 types of peripheral nerve problems (NINDS, Neuropathy).
| Nerve type | What it does | Common signs of trouble |
|---|---|---|
| Sensory | Feels touch, heat, cold and pain | Tingling, numbness, burning, a "glove and sock" feeling |
| Motor | Moves muscles | Weakness, cramps, tripping, trouble with buttons |
| Autonomic | Runs automatic jobs like blood pressure and digestion | Dizziness on standing, sweating changes, stomach upset |
Tingling that keeps coming back, spreads, or wakes you at night is worth a checkup.
Causes
What causes tingling in hands and feet?
Diabetes is the leading cause of nerve damage in the United States, but it is far from the only one (NINDS, Neuropathy). Low B vitamins, carpal tunnel, multiple sclerosis, stroke and some medicines can all cause numbness (MedlinePlus, Numbness).
| Cause | Typical pattern | First check to ask about |
|---|---|---|
| Diabetes | Both feet first, slowly moving up the legs | A1C blood test and a foot exam |
| Low vitamin B12 | Hands and feet, sometimes with tiredness | B12 blood level |
| Too much vitamin B6 | Hands and feet in people taking several supplements | A list of every supplement and its B6 amount |
| Alcohol | Feet and legs after years of heavy drinking | An honest talk about how much you drink |
| Carpal tunnel | Thumb and first fingers, worse at night | A hand exam |
| MS or stroke | One side, sudden, or with weakness | Urgent care |
Call 911 for numbness with weakness, confusion, slurred speech, vision changes or loss of bladder or bowel control (MedlinePlus, Numbness).
Diabetes
How does diabetes affect the nerves in your feet?
High blood sugar slowly harms the small nerves and blood vessels in the legs and feet. About one-third to one-half of people with diabetes have peripheral neuropathy, usually in the feet and legs (NIDDK, Diabetic neuropathy).
Numb feet stop feeling small cuts and blisters, and a sore you cannot feel can turn into an infection. Foot care matters more than any product.
Daily foot care that works
Look at both feet every day
Check tops, soles, heels and between the toes. Use a mirror or ask a family member if bending is hard (NIDDK, Foot care).
Wear shoes and socks
Go barefoot as little as possible, even at home.
Call about sores that do not heal
Any cut, blister or red spot that is not getting better needs a provider's look (NIDDK, Foot care).
Get a foot exam once a year
Ask for a full foot check at least yearly (NIDDK, Foot care).
Picture a 62-year-old with type 2 diabetes on metformin who notices burning toes at night. Sensible first steps are an A1C check, a foot exam and a B12 test.
Vitamin B12
Should you get a B12 test for tingling?
Yes, a B12 blood test is one of the most useful checks for tingling. Low B12 can cause numbness and tingling in hands and feet, even when your blood count looks normal (NIH ODS, Vitamin B12).
Some people are more likely to run low. Metformin and acid reducers such as PPIs and H2 blockers can lower B12 over time (NIH ODS, Vitamin B12).
If your level is low, treatment may ease the tingling. If it is normal, extra B12 is unlikely to change your nerves. A Cochrane review of 13 trials found the evidence too thin to say B vitamins help nerve symptoms (Cochrane, B vitamins). Learn more on the vitamin B12 ingredient page.

Vitamin B6
Can too much vitamin B6 cause tingling?
Yes. Too much vitamin B6 can itself cause sensory nerve damage, with numbness and tingling in the hands and feet (NIH ODS, Vitamin B6). That is the same set of symptoms many nerve supplements are sold for.
Adults need only 1.3 to 1.7 mg a day. The U.S. upper limit is 100 mg a day, and Europe set 12 mg a day in 2023 (NIH ODS, Vitamin B6). Australia has seen nerve problems below 50 mg a day (TGA, B6 alert 2022). The good news: it usually improves after the extra B6 stops (Muhamad et al., 2023).
Think of a 45-year-old who already takes a B-complex and a magnesium tablet for leg cramps. Some magnesium tablets hold 60 mg of B6 each (Daley et al., 2023). Another B6 product can push the total higher unnoticed.
NervoMax lists vitamin B6 but does not print the amount. Ask the maker and your doctor before adding it to other B6 products. If tingling gets worse on any supplement, stop it and see a doctor.

Daily habits
Do alcohol and daily movement affect your nerves?
Yes, both matter. Alcohol is a known cause of nerve damage (NINDS, Neuropathy), and regular movement keeps feet and legs in better shape to notice problems early.
Alcohol
Heavy drinking over years can damage nerves in the feet and legs (NINDS, Neuropathy). It is one cause you fully control, so tell your doctor how much you drink.
Movement
Short daily walks keep legs strong. Wear well-fitted shoes and check your feet afterward if you have diabetes.
The dial shows one simple day. The times are examples, not rules.
- With breakfast, about 8:00
Take 1 or 2 capsules with an 8 oz glass of water. A fixed meal makes it easy to remember.
- Or with dinner
If mornings are rushed, dinner works too. The label sets no time of day.
- Move your feet
Short daily walks help circulation in the feet and legs. Check your feet if you have diabetes.
- Sleep
Tired, cold or cramped limbs often feel worse at night. Note when tingling shows up.
The label says 1 or 2 capsules daily; timing is a suggestion. Daily foot checks matter if you have diabetes (NIDDK, Foot care).
Evidence
How strong is the evidence for nerve supplements?
The evidence gets weaker the closer you get to a finished blend. Fixing a real B12 shortfall helps; no study has tested NervoMax itself.
- B12 if lowB12 deficiency causes numbness
Fixing a real deficiency helps. Most people are not deficient. (NIH ODS, Vitamin B12)
- B vitaminsCochrane review: 13 trials
Evidence is insufficient to say B vitamins help nerve pain or tingling. (Cochrane, B vitamins)
- Bacopa9 memory trials
Small gains in attention speed after 12 weeks. Memory, not nerves. (Kongkeaw et al., 2014)
- GinkgoWalking pain trials
No meaningful benefit for leg circulation pain. (Cochrane, Ginkgo 2013)
- NervoMaxNo study of the product
No trial of NervoMax for numbness, tingling or nerve health. (FTC, Health claims)
Bar length shows how directly each line of evidence answers the question: will this blend help my nerves? It is our editorial summary of the linked sources, not a score from any study.
Supplements
Where does a supplement like NervoMax fit?
A supplement fits last, and small. After the cause is checked, some adults add a daily product. NervoMax is a dietary supplement, not a treatment for neuropathy.
The label says it helps support healthy nerve function. Use is 1 or 2 capsules a day with an 8 oz glass of water. Each 2-capsule serving holds a 600 mg blend of nine ingredients, with no single amount printed.
- Find the cause with your doctor first.
- Count your total B6 from every product.
- Check the label against your medicines.

FAQ
Nerve health and tingling FAQ
What is the most common cause of tingling feet?
Diabetes is the most common cause of tingling feet in the United States. About one-third to one-half of people with diabetes develop nerve damage, usually in the feet first. Low B12, alcohol, too much B6 and some medicines are other causes.
Can metformin cause tingling in the feet?
Metformin does not usually harm nerves directly, but it can lower vitamin B12 over time, and low B12 causes tingling. If you take metformin and your hands or feet tingle, ask for a B12 blood test.
What vitamin deficiency causes tingling in hands and feet?
Vitamin B12 deficiency is the best-known vitamin cause of tingling in the hands and feet. It can happen even when your blood count is normal. A simple blood test answers the question. Extra B12 helps only if you are low.
How much B6 is too much for nerves?
There is no clearly safe threshold for long-term B6 use. The U.S. upper limit is 100 mg a day, Europe set 12 mg a day, and Australia has reports of nerve problems below 50 mg a day. Add up B6 from every product, including B-complexes and magnesium tablets.
Can a supplement fix nerve damage?
No supplement has been shown to repair nerve damage, and NervoMax is not a treatment for neuropathy. Fixing a real B12 deficiency can help symptoms. With diabetes, blood sugar control and daily foot care matter most.
Is walking good for tingling feet?
Walking is generally good for people with tingling feet, as long as your shoes fit well and you check your feet afterward. It keeps legs strong and helps circulation.
